Our two storey 3 bedroom cape code home overlooks the beautiful river philip in Oxford Junction, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia on a one and a half acre lot. It is situated at the end of a one hundred yard tree lined driveway which provides privacy from the road. Privacy is also guaranteed as the whole lot is tree lined.
Our home, 28 by 40 feet, with an adjoining garage measuring 24 by 24 feet is energy effecient with an R factor exceeding 50. The house is heated electrically but with only a total of 2500 watts of electricity. A cd is available upon request outling the step by step construction of our home. The construction process has been published in Fine Homebuilding magazine, an international woodworking magazine.
The accompanying pictures include a pergola with grape vines located on a rock courtyard which can be accessed through french door from our dining room. At the opposite end of the rear driveway an arbor is located with grape and kiwi vines. A 12 by 12 foot screened octoganol gazebo is located overlooking the river Philip.
The in line vacumn system allows easy cleaning of all floors including the finished basement. All floors are hard wood except in the kitchen. The basement has an entrance directly to the attached garage. Two bathrooms are located on the upper floor, one off of the master bedroom and one for the two guest bedrooms. The main floor consiste of kitchen, dining room, living room(open concept) as well as a family room and laundry room with a half bath. Double closets are located at the rear entrance as well as in the front hallway.The kitchen includes a wall oven, convection oven and a glass top stove enclosed in a brick structure. Both the kitchen cupboards, with dishwasher and the island, with a bar sink, have ceramic tops.
We are located approximately one hour from Moncton, NB and one and a half hours from Halifax, NS. Northumberland strait, a well known beach area is only twenty minutes away. Our River Philip is well known by fishing enthusists as people come from outside the province during the salmon run in the fall. The river is also used by canoeists and kayakers during the summer months. Wentworth valley is a well known ski resort, only twenty minutes away. In fact skiing and snowboarding competitions were held there recently at the Canada Winter Games.
